Nippers & Youth
Nippers
Nippers is a junior activities program that introduces children aged 5 – 13 to Surf Life Saving. It’s a great way for children to make friends, be active and learn how to enjoy the beach safely. Nippers first learn about surf awareness and safety.
As they progress through the various age groups, nippers will undergo lessons in wading, running, ocean swimming, board paddling and lifesaving skills, as well as learning the basics of resuscitation and first aid.
Youth
Youth carries on from the Nipper program and is for children aged 13+ years old. Our youth come from a variety of locations and have become great friends.
The youth are exposed to more skills and invited to commence SRC and BM awards. This provides opportunity to access more variety within the club such as patrolling, IRB crew, and driving the ATV (depending on age and qualifications). The youth also attend an end of season camp to celebrate their efforts demonstrated throughout the season.
Beach Patrols
In conjunction with an agreement from both our club and Surf Life Saving SA, we have agreed to provide patrols on every Saturday and Sunday in January, between 11am – 3pm, unless advised. The primary area is the surf beach but we will also align to where crowds are, whether that be Southend, the Jetty or Salmon Hole. We will always provide the community an update via Facebook on the exact location we will patrol prior to patrolling.
To become part of a patrol, and have access to the IRB and ATV, you must first meet the minimum requirements of holding a Surf Rescue Certificate or Bronze Medallion. If you are interested, please refer below to our training information.
Training
Training occurs throughout the year both in and out of the season. We will shortly provide a document with up to date training schedules for various skills including, but not limited to:
- Surf Rescue Certificate
- Bronze Medallion
- IRB drivers and crew
- First Aid Course
- Age Manager Courses
